Beautifully Human / Billy Evans

Updated: Aug 28

As we continue our series today called Beautifully Human...

We focus on the beauty of humans and the power in their stories…

Through telling their stories we hope to connect this world. To spread some love and humanity...

To show a common thread of beautiful humans…

This week we go to San Diego, California with Billy Evans to hear his incredible story...

I met Billy a few years back on tour with Ghost. His infectious spirit is something I always remember. Always laughing and having a great time. We have continued to be friends all these years. This past year we had a chance to catch up. We both shared stories of recovery and close encounters with death. So glad to call Giddy a friend.

Let’s all be beautifully human…

Tell me a story that shaped your life…

- When I was 16 years old my Dad had a heart attack, he was an over the road truck driver. I had to go on home study school so go on the road and help him. From that moment on I knew what it was like to be a man, to take things from myself so I could to take care of someone I loved.

Tell me a story that almost ruined your life…

- I was having really bad back pains, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t sit, I just wasn’t feeling right. My wife, who turned out to be my savior, forced me to go to the hospital where I found out I was having a widow maker heart attack. Had she not taking a stand against me not wanting to go to the hospital I would not be her right now.

Tell me a story that enriched your life…

- After my heart event I ended up sitting in a hotel room in Bakersfield at 1:00am with 2 dear friends who let me know that my new sober and healthy life was going to be okay. I don’t know if they know it but their words and encouragement are something I carry with me everyday.

Tell me a story that enriched another life…

- I met a kid outside of a Starbucks, he was clearly homeless and had no shoes. My wife works in the clothing industry so I had some shoes and a hoodie in my car I was able to give him.  I saw him a few more times, he appeared to be getting his life together and I was really happy to see that, sometimes all people need is someone to show them some kindness to make their life better.

Tell me a story of crazy life…

- On one of my birthdays we were celebrating at a Jager show where Korn was playing. A few of the guys in the band found out it was my birthday and we had way too many drinks. I ended up getting my entire party thrown out of the VIP section of the show due to excessive vomiting on the floor. But wait, it doesn’t stop there. After making our way to the parking lot I decided it would be really fun to jump on the a hood of a brand new Mustang (it’s still had the paper plates in the window ) leaving a large dent and then puking all over the side of the car. Looking back on that night, it makes me think that I’m glad I got older and sort of grew up. Tell me a story of life…

- When I think about life stories, I think about spending time with people who care about me and people I care about. Surround yourself with good people, stay positive, and you’re gonna have a really happy life.  I always felt the quote from John Lennon about life was perfect.  "When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life." What would you want the world to know about you…

- Even though I have a rough exterior, I’m a nice person who helps people, I don’t look down on people who are having a rough time in their life, I try to help if I can.

What did / do you miss most during covid 19…

- Seeing my friends, being able to go to concerts, and Disneyland.

What brings you the most joy / smile the most...

- Seeing my wife happy. During the hardest times of my life she took care of me, so I will spend the rest of my life making sure I do whatever I can to make her happy, it brings me joy to see her smile.

If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere, where would you go…

- London

What brought you to where you are at in life today…

- Having a wife who keeps me in check, and surrounding myself with friends who truly care and look out for each other.

What is your most prized possession…

- Other than my wife and friends I would have to say my autographed Derek Jeter World Series baseball.

Traveling is my life, and has also saved my life. It shows the beauty of other cultures. tell me a story of your favorite travel moment…

- The wife and I were on vacation in London, we had high tea at an outdoor shop sitting across the street from Big Ben, it was awesome. Tell me a story of struggle…

-Trying to make the right choices in life regarding my health is a struggle, after 40 years of eating like crap sometimes it’s hard to choose the right thing.  In another life, what are you doing…

- I would hope that I had my life together and that I’m doing nice things for people. Or being a rockstar, I already know who the two guys would be to travel with me and make sure my merch looks good.

What is your greatest accomplishment…

- Learning to be good to the people around me that I care about, and helping people who need it.  What is your biggest fear…

- Snakes, and dying before I leave my mark on this planet. I’m not sure what that is yet, but when I figure it out I’m gonna make a huge spectacle of myself.

What is your biggest regret…

- Not spending enough time with my loved ones before they passed away.  What do you do for work… and why…

- I am the manager at a glass and mirror shop. I’ve been doing it for about 25 years and it’s cool to see the finished product when the customer gets a nice new mirror or shower.  What was your first tattoo...

- XYZ clothing logo on my left wrist. If you had the ear of everyone in the world, what would you say to them...  - Be kind to each other, live in peace, and don’t let outside influences change who you are. Stand up for what you believe in and don’t let anyone ever tell you your beliefs are wrong.
